New vs Refurbished Laptop: What to Check Before You Buy
Updated 5 min readBy AUC Smart Services Pvt Ltd
A good refurbished laptop can cost far less than a new one, but quality varies widely between sellers. Here's how to tell a good deal from a risky one.
Who is selling it?
Buy from a seller whose identity you can verify, who gives an invoice and a clear warranty. That matters more for refurbished items than for new ones.
Warranty and returns
Ask how long the warranty lasts, what it covers and who handles repairs. A short return window lets you test the laptop properly.
Check the hardware
- Battery health and how long it lasts on a charge
- Screen for dead pixels, marks or uneven backlight
- Every key, the touchpad, ports, webcam and speakers
- Storage type (SSD is much faster) and RAM
Genuine software
Make sure Windows is activated with a genuine licence and that no unknown software is preinstalled.
Compare against new
Compare the price with a new laptop of similar performance and warranty. If the difference is small, new may be better value.
