Phone Battery Draining Fast? How to Find the Cause and Fix It
Updated 5 min readBy AUC Smart Services Pvt Ltd
Batteries wear out with age, but sudden drain usually has a cause you can find in a few minutes.
See what's using the battery
Open the battery section in Settings to see which apps used the most power. An app you rarely open near the top of the list is a red flag. Update it, restrict its background activity or uninstall it.
Check battery health
iPhones show battery health under Settings > Battery. Many Android phones show it in the battery or device care settings. A battery that has lost a lot of capacity drains quickly and may shut down early.
Settings that use a lot of power
- Very high screen brightness or a long screen timeout
- Weak mobile signal, which makes the phone work harder
- Location, Bluetooth and hotspot left on all the time
- Apps refreshing constantly in the background
Heat shortens battery life
Leaving a phone in a hot car or charging it under a pillow speeds up battery wear. Keep it cool while charging and use a good-quality charger.
Time for a replacement?
- The phone shuts down at 20–30%
- Battery health is significantly reduced
- The phone gets hot while doing little
- The back or screen is bulging, which needs urgent attention
